I acknowledge and respect the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees and Esquimalt) Peoples on whose territory the university stands, and the Lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ Peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.

Colonization and associated attitudes, policies, systems and institutions have significantly changed Indigenous peoples’ relationship with this land. For many years those same things served to exclude Indigenous communities from accessing allopathic health care, and has compromised being able to utilize cultural wellness practices. I aim to hold a warm, welcoming and respectful space that is accepting of diversity and inclusion, however, my experience as a white, cisgendered settler has provided privileges which cannot be ignored. I make a commitment to work on continuous education of how my privilege has informed my practice, and take steps to decolonize my belief structures and educate myself to best serve a diversity of individuals.
